The internet is awash with due date calculators to help you work out exactly when your bundle of joy will arrive into the world. Using a pregnancy due date calculator is a very effective way of determining the timing of your new arrival.

Is a pregnancy due date calculator accurate?

Let’s get the facts out the way first.

There is absolutely no way for anyone to know exactly when you ovulated and conceived unless you have been tracking your ovulation. So, your due date is actually calculated based on the date of your last period.

Women tend to ovulate around two weeks after the first day of their period. Conception tends to happen shortly afterwards. We know that the average pregnancy term lasts anywhere between 37 weeks and 42 weeks. Most online baby due date calculators applies this information to pop out an estimated due date.

So, my baby may not be born on my due date?

We can’t predict exactly when your beautiful baby will join the world.

Around six per cent of babies are actually born on their due date but it is very likely that your little one will arrive a couple of weeks either side of your estimated due date.

Could my pregnancy due date change after I have a scan?

At your first scan between 10 weeks and 15 weeks pregnant you will be given a more accurate due date. This is based on factors like the size and general development of your beautiful baby.
